Welcome to HeartofaJesuit.ie

Spend some time exploring the Society of Jesus, or as we call ourselves, the Jesuits. You may come to this site knowing a lot about Jesuits; you may feel you know nothing. We do not intend to answer all your questions here but rather to give you a taste of who we are, what we do and how we see the world.

God has revealed his hopes for us through Jesus Christ. He dreams that we will be one with him and one with each other. This is a big dream. In the video opposite, the Superior General of the worldwide Jesuits, Fr. Adolfo Nicolás, speaks about the importance of having big dreams and being committed to them.  We are not certain about how God’s big dream is going to be realised. You may also be uncertain about what God’s dream is for your life. Fr. Nicolás believes that the only true certainty we have is hope. Whatever you do in life, God will be with you, whether you like it or not!

Who are we?

We Jesuits find our identity not alone but in companionship....     in companionship with Jesus who calls and in companionship with others who share this call. We are priests and brothers collaborating with lay colleagues, working in Ireland and around the world to seek the reconciliation of humanity with God, with creation and reconciliation amongst peoples.

“Wherever in the Church, even in the most difficult and extreme fields, at the crossroads of ideologies, in the social trenches, there has been and there is confrontation between the burning exigencies of man and the perennial message of the Gospel. Here there have been, and there are, Jesuits."              Pope Benedict XVI echoing the words of Pope Paul VI
